i was thinking about getting a new filter. i have a 404 but its super loud. i cant figure out whats wrong with it and have emailed the company but havent got any info. i was looking at the fluval 405 filter but is it really worth $70+ fot it?

where can you get them for $70? iv eseen them retail for $160-200 including online. but they are worth it, i now have 2 405s.
i was stating that its $70+ more for the 405. 404 is 80-90 405 160-170.
do you own a 404? i can almost get 2 404 for the price of 405. how much better is it? explain.

i have 2 405s, a 404, and a 304. the 05s have mainly appearance changes excpet for 2 important differences. the 05s intake strainer is much better and the tank rim adapter is perfect. i have heard the newest 04 tank rim adaptor is really bad and frustrating to setup, but you only have to deal with it when you are setting it up. if you can get the 04s that cheap you may want to just do that and maybe buy the 2 parts separate, that would probably be cheaper than getting the 05.
i think the 404 does suck in that manner. when i first set them up i used them. now i dont. i dont see the filter so i dont care what it looks like. whats the intake strainer? my intake has a sponge at the end.
the intake strainer is the grated plastic end to the intake tube. the 03s and 04s versions are pretty crappy, over time they practically collapse in on themselves. but the 05 version is great and effectively clog free.
