View Full Version : Java fern?

Hi all,
This may sound kind of sad, but I'm looking for just one single java fern. Nowhere within an hour's drive of where I live sells them at all anymore--not chain stores or the LFS. I only want one for my betta's MiniBow, because I'd like for him to have a live plant (and Petsmart ripped me off with mondo grass).

I would've posted in the take a plant, leave a plant thread, but I don't have anything to give away, unless someone wants that mondo grass... so, if you have a java fern you'd like to sell me, just let me know!

Thanks very much!

I have a young one I could send you, no charge. you'd have to pay shipping, though.

Any idea how much shipping would be?

nope. I guess I could check, or someone could chime in with the price.

I'm working on a budget right now, so I would appreciate at least a rough idea before I say yes to the deal (but I'll probably say yes anyway, since I really want to get my betta a fern). :)

I think I once heard... $11.99 for live plant shipping, but I can't remember exactly...

Probably best for me to hold off for a short time, then, just to make sure I have the money to cover it... is it alright if I PM you when I think I can manage it? It wouldn't be a problem, but I've got textbooks to buy for this semester within the next week and that's going to be really pricey.

Still I would love to take you up on this offer just as soon as I can. :)

I looked up the price via USPS and you're right, it's right around $12. I'm not sure about other shipping services, though. :)

a lot of people only charge 5-7. maybe if you found someone closer it would be less.

Petsmart should be able to get java fern. Mine always has it in stock. I know you probably don't like them very much, but it would be very cheap to go that route.

I wish I could find someone willing to ship for $5-7. Mgamer, maybe you're right about location?

Drgold, I actually asked my local Petsmart already and they said that they no longer carry it. Apparently there was some problem with it, but they didn't go into detail. I wish they hadn't sold me that mondo grass instead, though.

pm me your zip code. If you live somewhat close, I have some I will send you free of charge. How does that sound!

USPS priority mail is like 4.85 or something like that. Takes 2-3 days but thats more than enough time, plants always arrive alive if packed right.

If I had some I'd send them your way. But it seems my java fern don't do as well as my other plants for some reason.

born2lovefish: If your location is correct, I don't live near enough to you to send it free of charge--but thank you so much anyway! :)

IceH2O: Thank you for the info and the kind words. I think I'm probably just going to abandon the idea for the time being, since it seems to be a bit of a hassle. Maybe after the first tuition payment of the semester I can think about buying a fern. :)

USPS Priority Shipping is $4.05 for under a pound package to anywhere in the US. All you will need in a tiny bit of water or even just a damp paper towel to put them in when shipping...atleast that's the way I got mine and they arrived in great shape. I don't have any to spare (I only got two) or I would send you one.

Hope this helps!!

if my stock was a little healthier ( shrunk a little b/c of a tank move) I'd send you some.
