I would think that aqua clear would be the best. I have a 500/110 and works perfect.

based on various consumer report deals I found online I went with an aquaclear...it was consistently rated the best and personally, I havn't had any problems with it.

yeah, whispers are OK, but not the greatest longevity. I only have them because they came in a kit. I'm going to upgrade to Aquaclear probably. I like BioWheel, too, by Penguin (Marineland).

I am very curious to know what everyone thinks I have penguin and whisper filters but I am looking to add some filteration and upgrade some of my filters so the input may sway my decision I really like the penguin but it is noisier than my Whispers but the whisper moves a lot of water fast. How does the aquaclear filters compare? are they more durable etc?

Aqua Clear is the best HOB filter I have ever used.
I have 2 110's on my 100 gal and my water is crystal clear.

I like Marineland- the penguin and the emperor. I really appreciate the bio-wheel, but its also quiet, i have had it for like 5 years (I think) with NO problems and is still quiet like I just took it out the box.
Why yall like aquaclear?

Price, performance, convenience, dependability. But the Bio-Wheel is a close second, so you're not wrong, either :)
I liked my Bio-Wheel, it ran great and quiet, but it costs a lot more than the Aquaclears (if it's an Emperor).

It really depends what the primary function of the filter is and what is in a tank.
Best for bio are Emperor and Penguins.
Best for mech is HOT Magnum
Best for versatility and cheapest to use are AquaClear.
I am not a fan of Whisper, though I run 2 Jrs I got NIB for $6 each. I will never use a Tetratec.
I have not tried any of the others available.
