That is a pretty average price for macrostomas. They are pretty cool looking fish and unlike other bettas, macrostoma's are mouthbrooders. I have read about people breeding them, but it's a pretty challenging task. They don't have a real good survival rate. You need to keep them in water with a very low PH (3.0-5.5). The only other betta I've kept besides the common is betta cochina. Unfortunately I've never been able to get a female. Every time I have bought a "female" it was an imature male.
Here is a pic of a cochina if your not familiar with them.

not if you REALLY want those fish. Some people will pay $100 for a single forest green Betta splendens, or thousands for a prize koi.

look in my sig youll find a fish that after shipping was around $250 dolla and got more comin too lol(except only like $200 somethin) but i would never pay that for a betta

They are difficult to breed...they males have a habit of swallowing the eggs, I understand. $300/pair is pretty typical.

, or thousands for a prize koi.

Koi easily reach into the tens and hundreds of thousands, as do Asian arowanas.

dam* nice looking fish tai95.
For me to justify spending that much money on one fish that lives 3 years, you better believe I plan on breeding it!

Well thank you. I'm almost ready to breed him. I bought a sibling female from the same seller, but I wasn't to impressed with her. I have found a female that should work better and she should be her soon. I'm hoping that he will "like" her as much as I do and I'll end up with some decent looking fry.

do you breed the wild ones same way as the regulat bettas?
is mouthbrooder easier to breed since the eggs grow in the parents mouth
