And I spent about 2 hours pulling her out of the mud lastnight. So this morning I went down to check on her and the stupid ***** got stuck in the mud yet again. And even worse, it took about 3 hours to get her out and in a safe spot. I mean, the only way she could have gotten stuck again is if she got up and walked back over to the same spot and fell in again (it is by a pond where she got stuck). There is a whole creek full of water and she decides to go to the same spot to get a drink and get stuck again. IN THE SAME SPOT!!!

I try and try but always come to the same conclusion, Cows are stupid. It isn't really thier fault, but it makes me wonder if they would have survived without the help of man.

I think that the extinct wild cows that our domestic cows are descended from, the aurochs, were actually fairly smart and very strong. it's domestication that's made cows into dumbutts. I once watched a cow walk into the same pole 6 times before finally walking around it! :D

with that title, I kept waiting for the punchline :) Mabey you need to fence off the mudpit(and throw in some logs, rocks etc, make an offroad park :p ) so the stupid thig doesnt do it again.

We are going to fence it off. Unfortunatly the cow died lastnight.

Awww. poor thing. How did it die anyway? Hope you didn't "accidentally" kill it for being stupid :sim:

What happened is that I had to pull her out again when she got stuck for the second time. And the next day when I went to check her she thrashed around so much that she got on her side with her face pointed downhill. And that is what killed her. But, I doubt she would have made it anyway, I think her rear legs might have been paralyzed. She was an old cow and was going to market this year anyway. Hopefully in the next year or so we can get a pond built and tap a hydrant with a self watering device so that will draw the cattle away from that mud hole. The thing is that is the only real source of water right now. Since it has been so hot the creek has dried up, but I am starting to water the cattle from the corral it is just a matter of them realizing it.
