I have been looking at aquabid and different fish stores online checking on prices/shipping and such so once I have my tanks finished and figure out what I have as far as female/male ratio I can get 3-4 f/1m and I keep coming across F1 and F2 what does this mean?

Thanks in advance,

Gin

P or P1 is the parrent, referning to wild cought specimens. F1 would mean the offspring of a wild cought pair, F2 the offspring of an F1 pair. Ill let you guess what F3 would refer to ;)

Ok, I get it :D So the F just means it came from a wild caught pair the number represents the generation from the wild caught pair and no F means it did not come from the wild ;) Cool!!

New question where do you go to research a biotope (is that right?), like the plants, fish, ect... from a certain area?

Thanks!!

Im not sure of a place to research a biotope, but im sure you could google it and get some results. The F designations I gave should be accurate in the context you stated, but can also be used to describe your own fish. P1 being the parent specimin and the F's being thier offspring. I am not sure if they list fish with no f's there, but unless its a hybred it would have had to come from the wild at some point, albiet many generations past. You may want to contact thier customer support to get a 100% sure answer.

Ok, thanks! I'm not really to worried about things (how close to wild they are), I'm not breeding and selling I was just courious as to what it meant, maybe in the future I will be more into breeding but for now I am jus trying to even out my tanks and get them set up with the proper amount of M/F ratio and such.

Thanks again for the help (and such quick response, wow!!)

The 'F' stands for "filial generation", F0 are wild-caught, F1 are the first captive generation, F2 the second...F3 and further generations typically carry no designation, although some aquarists do use F3.
