I will be getting a Rena XP3 and Ehiem 2026 for my 135 setup. I read that for the XP3, it has to be setup 24" below the water level, but my setup does not allow this since my tank will be sitting on a ledge and I will be placing the canisters next to the tank itself. So it will probably only be 12" below the water level. Does anyone have any insight? thanks!

I do not have experience with that canister, however, I would imagine that 24" is the maximum distance from water level. The impeller may only be strong enough to push water back up into the tank at this distance. Any more, and the flow may be restricted. You may have to cut the hoses shorter than normal, so as not to create a "drip loop" (where the hose goes below the filter before going in). This drooping of the hose will probably cause a restricted flow.
Maybe another canister should be considered for the job. I would ask your LFS or even try e-mailing the manufacturer about your specific application.

Get the Rena - You won't be sorry, it will work fine. You only have to prime it once, then the fittings retain the prime every time you disconnect it. This filter is really a great value.
