Hey guys, I just purchased three bags of Sechem's Flourite, and after putting a little over one bag into the tank, the water is HORRIBLY CLOUDY. I mean the water is now just about flat red  . The fish seem fine, but I'm just wondering how long will it take to filter out, and will there be and will the fish be O.K.? Also, could I get another filter and speed up the process? Any help would be great, thanks guys.

Did you rinse the gravel at all before adding? That stuff needs to be rinsed WELL! I think I rinsed each bucket full of mine at least 7 times before it was reasonably clear. Probably the only thing that will help at this point are massive ater changes to get the mucky water out.

Ooo, should have washed it first! lol...I would move the fish, pull the substrate, wash it and then put it back. If you don't wash it every time something gets move in the tank the substrate will throw up clouds of dust. It's worth your time to redue it. Good luck! ;)

Also, your filters will become clogged quickly, once you wash your substrate change out part of your filter pads (not all, don't want to loose all your good bacteria) but you want to make sure your filters will still function!

hehe, there is no good bacteria yet, it needs to be in a tank to cultivate the good bacteria, straight out of the bag it is just dirty gravel! :D

Actually, this leads me to ask, have you cycled your tank? How long have you had your tank, what size and what types of fish do you have?

But I read NOT to rinse it because it will wash away all the good bacteria in the gravel???

Once its been in your tank and the bacteria colony has already established itself, THEN dont rinse it or you will kill the bacteria.

Alright, thanks for the help. THe tank is clearing up gradually, by tomorrow it should all be gone, im going to RINSE :D the rest of it before i put it in, tahnks for all the help.
