Does anyone know much about these guys? I've had mine for a little over a month but I'm not even sure if he's a Dwarf or not...I've looked at tons of pictures but still not sure what he is. Could anyone give me an idea about these guys on food and water perameters? He's cute but a picky eater and doesnt get along with other fish too well, especially other puffers (noticed this after I got them.) Right now it's in a 10 gal with 2 ghost shrimp and 2 mystery snails.

jm is correct, however dwarf puffers are the only truly FW species of puffer, if I remember correctly. For pictures, go to www.dwarfpuffers.com. That site will also give you feeding recommendations, because they can be and are picky eaters.

And yes, they (and most puffers) are not suited for community tanks. I had 3 baby dwarf's in a 10 gal by themselves and had to give one up because he was being too aggressive. Now I'm left with 2 itty-bitty fishies in a 10 gal tank, but they're getting along much better now.

I have read that even amongst themselves, dwarf puffers can be territorial, claiming parts of the tank for themselves.....but they're just so darn cute!

No there are plenty of freshwater puffers it's just they are not commonly available. Here are a few of the other freshwater puffers

Colomesus asellus (Southamerican puffer, peruvian puffer,Brazilian puffer)
Tetraodon Lineatus (Nile, Fahaka Puffer)
Tetraodon Mbu (MBU, Giant freshwater puffer)
Tetraodon suvattii (Arrowhead puffer)
Tetraodon palembangensis (humpback puffer)
Tetraodon miurus (congo puffer)

Cool, lots of inland puffers. How cute, I'm imagining them hovering around in streams.

waiting to nip at your toes....... ;)

My dwarf puffers readily eat frozen bloodworm and brineshrimp. They also realy enjoy hunting the small snails that infest my planted tank but they do a poor job cleaning out the snail shells and the left overs foul up their small tank so I only feed them the snails ocasionally.good luck with your puffers.

My puffer also eats frozen blood worm, and he hunted down and ate a snail that came in on one of my plants... :) Good luck with yours!
