My LFS is selling Raphael cats for pretty cheap and I was wondering about getting one. Does anybody know if they work well in sand? They will be in a 55 gallon with firemouths and Possibly a JD. How well do they clean up? Thanks for your help.

Sand is perfect as they love to burrow, add hiding places and dark areas to tthe tank. They are carnivores so no need for algae pellets etc. They will often grow to over 8 inches and so need a large tank. the 55gal should be ok though.
Preferred tank specs:
Hardness: 2-20° dGH
Ph: 5.8 to 7.0
Temp: 26-28° C

yeah, a rapheal shoud do well. like he said, they are carnivores, and i've heard of them eating litte fish. and I once saw one that was, like, 10" long.

 Real easy to please cause they're scavengers. They like a little hiding place of their own when the lites are on. Tank mates are no problem as long as not their own kind in a small tank. Max out at about 8 or 9" but some may get a bit larger. This is "RALPH's" favorite position

GOOD LUCK

Theyd be fine in sand. If you ever see them that is

I love my squeakers! they are called the talking catfish too because that have an audible Squeak. mine loves betta food and is about 6 inches now, I have 6 of them. I loovve them

I have a spotted Rapheal Cat , but I never see him. The only time I do see him is during feeding time and he usually fights over the algae tablets. I haven't seen him in a long time, guess I need to start checking inside the ships. Last time it took me almost 30 mins to get him out of the ship...he had himself wedged into a corner. Silly fish.
