Bogwood and water bug infestations?

Can it be true? Is it possible to contaminate a tank with a piece of bogwood. I've finally found a great piece from a LFS and am on the 3rd day of soaking it. I'm dying to put it in my tank, but if it will cause a water bug infestation, I'll go with fake. Will boiling kill the water bugs or whatever else may lurke?
PS Thanks everyone (and plah813!!) for all the knowlege being passed along.
Must . . . sleep. . . now.

Thanks for the shout-out! Glad to be of service. Just be warned: I am not going to be here nearly as much once school starts :)

I would think boiling would kill just about anything. Some people have to boil wood (especially driftwood) for days before it will sink in their tank. That would most definitely kill any living nasties.

Of course anyone is welcome to correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks for the warning. I won't be around either when the fall quarter starts. That's how my tank ended up in this condition in the first place, thanks to all those credit hours!

If you picked up the peice of driftwood at your lfs then chances are the only bugs you'll find are the kind that will drowned in water. Only time I would worry about bugs that could infest a tank are if you picked it up off the ground or from water outside. Then like plah831 said, boiling should take care of most anything.

lets see, if the wood was dry..it was probably dry for quite a long time..then you soak it..then boil it..chances are any bugs are long dead. ;)

Well, actually I read that it happened to another fish keeper in a different thread in one of these forums. I may be spending a little too much time sifting through all the information, and somehow adopting the problems to my own tank. Still though I saw a package deal of a bunch of driftwood picked up by the ocean on E-Bay for 8 bucks!!! A tempting deal, after yeasterdays trip to PetCo. I walked away with a few fake plants and some rocks and dropped 40 bucks!
Also I have read that some fungal spores can survive for weeks on dry surfaces. I know for a fact that there are other infectious agents that can survive boiling temperatures (again moistly spores). I just want to keep my main tank infection free, weather it be water bugs or infectious diseases.
