This is my first year with an outdoor pond and back in May I bought four hardy water lilies. They've all put out leaves but only one has flowered. Is there a maturation cycle for lilies? Will I have to wait until next year for them to flower? FWIW, I live in northern Massachusetts. We have about four to six weeks of warm weather and then it will begin to cool off.

Edit: The outdoor pond is about 20" deep with about 200 gallons of capacity. In there, I have two kois and seven comets. I also have an ever expanding group of water hyacinths which have grown from three groups to about ten. I've only had one bloom from the hyacinths.

My wife and I have have day lillies outside. We got them from my aunt two years ago. They grew green leaves last year and this year they flowered. SO if they are truly related I might think the same might hold true, that they would flower next year.

I am not the biggest lilly expert, but I picked up what appeared to be an adult plant with a small plantlet growing next to it in the pot. I put it in my 70g container pond in May, and it took about a month to flower. The blooms only last a couple days but they a coming up pretty frequently.

From what I have heard, 20 inches should be a fine depth. Plus I have heard that they prefer 6+ hours of direct sunlight. Personally, mine get about 4. Hope this helps

Ahh, a fan of Courage I see. Having kids you just have to watch these programs right? I miss that show.

My wife and I have 4 ponds, ranging from 100 gal.to 1/4 acre.we have a lot of lillypads of the small variety with red and yellow blooms in 2 of the ponds. We recently got some giant lillypad seeds but I cant get shoots to start.the seeds are VERY hard and when broken look like an acorn but harder shell. The plants we got the seeds from are very large at least 18" across.Anybody have an idea of how to get these to germinate. We want them in the 3 larger ponds. The flowers are white and pale pink.I would appreciate any info.Ive had some in wet mud (as they grow naturally) for over a month and got nothing.Ill trade seeds for information. We have access to a lot of seeds.
Thanks
