Ya, a red tailed catfish (wich I'm pretty sure gets to be over four feet long as an adult) would probably need nothing short of 1,000 - 2,000 gallons to be healthy.

I can;t really give you any suggestions for a catfish unless you post the dimensions of your tank, although 4-5 LARGE (most likely purchased at a large size to prevent them from becoming feeder fish - clown loaches are slow growers, and suposedly live for 20 years) clown loaches would loook good.

tank length is 8 ft and i believe 30 in deep and havent got the call on width it is a used tank a friend is lookin at it saturday and setting up the pick up date its about 5 hrs away so i havent seen it but hes into big tanks so i trust his judgement not sure if i want 1 big catfish or multiple med sized ones i do know there will be two pike cichlids midas or red devil not sure if i will pair those tho an a jag or two i like the idea of clown loaches also silver dollars the tank is set up for a wet dry i was thinking of a planted sump my planted tanks were always so much healthier plus it would be a place to breed feeders whatcha think i will take any ideas this is a clean slate other than the cichlids come on and help me out thanx
