Quick Java Fern Question

I did a search on Java fern in here and got over 500 threads, and after looking at the first few pages to no avail figured I would just ask, so if this is covering old ground please my apologies in advance.

I have secured Java Fern to driftwood in my aquarium. I was wondering if anyone had an estimate of how long it will be before it takes hold and I can remove the rubber bands. I know it depends on light, growth, etc, but perhaps someone gave give an estimate as to how long it typcally takes java fern to grab.

I have read that it takes a month or two, and that cotton thread works really well, being that eventually the thread will dissolve, by which time, the fern will have attatched itself. Not that the rubber bands won't work, but IMO, the elastic may put too much pressure on the rhizome, thwarting growth. Good luck!
