hi, all. I know that bettas are supposed to be carnivores, but mine sure has omnivorous habits. he eats java moss, algae, stuff that my pleco missed on her zucchini, algae discs, as well as veggie flakes meant for my platies. plus, he refuses to eat any live, frozen, or freeze dried food. the only animal matter he gets in his diet is from betta pellets and the flakes. are all these veggies he insists on eating bad for his health?

i don't see how eating veggies will affect the betta negatively, in fact, it might help as it is getting extra fiber, nutrients and some variety in its diet. as long as it keeps eating its betta pellets and flakes for some protein, i'd say he would be a healthy betta.

the only bad thing you might notice is that he overdoes it a little bit and gets super-pudgy for a day or two.

my female used to do that.. chomping down all the leftover plec food... after a good poop she was just fine.
