I have a question that I would like answered. We have a 55 gallon with 2 pirahna in it. We had a cichlid in with them. They got along for 3 months and then the pirahna took one of his eyes and a big chunck out of his back. We switched him to our 10 gallon (he is only about 2 in.). We have goldfish, molly, and a guppy in there. I am not sure what kind of cichlid he is, but he is very skinny, long, and blue with lighter blue horizontal stripes down him from head to tail. Does anyone know if my happy fish will be ok with a cichlid or if we would be better off putting him back with the pirahna when he is heeled or getting another tank? Please help.

By goldfish do you mean 1 goldfish, or more than 1? Either way, I would suggest that you get a bigger tank for your goldies as they need at least 10 gallons each, 15 would be better.

no, they need aty least 30g per fish for fancies, 55g per fish for commons and comets.

really?? I was always told for years that they needed at least 10 gallons a fish, and I didn't hear that from the LFS either. I read it here on AC not too long ago and several other fish forums that I'm a member of. Learn something new everyday I suppose...either way, linz_harv still needs a bigger tank for the goldfish.

That is a Lake Malawi cichlid, I think name Managuay (?) something like that, very aggressive. Mbuna, probably won't get over 4-6 inches. Check out www.malawimayhem.com for better id.

Aren't guppy's and mollies tropical fish needing much warmer water than the goldfish? Are they compatable?

Yes, and no, guppys and mollies are not compatible with goldfish.

Sorry, there seems to be no more editing option--that blue cichlid is I believe an Electric Blue--still fairly aggressive. Sorry about that.
