View Full Version : Going with Angelfish
I've had a 55 gal. community tank for a couple years. I have had several species together in one tank and have been very successful. Anyway, I have decided Angels are my favorite. Is there anything special with Angels I should know. I have done tons of research on diet, water conditions, as well as just general do's and dont's, but just want to make sure I have all bases covered. Any info is accepted with a thank you.

what are your current tank inhabitants? some fish could be eaten by the angel or nip at its fins
I have found a great home for all the other fish. The only fish that will be housed with the Angels will be 2 Gouramis, 2 Pictus Cats, and 2 medium Plecos. I have 1 Angel now and it is approx. 4" (including fins) I have only recently decided to purchase more Angels. I just havent done so yet

Generally, gouramis and angels don't mix. If you decide to keep the gouramis, keep a close watch on that.

i have found that only dwarf gouramis work with angels. three spot (and the like) like to nip at thier fins.

if your current angel is 4 inches, try to find some that are all the same size, so the biggest few dont gang up on one

I have several (and different types of) gouramis, and an angel in with them, i have had no issues between the angel and the gouramis...

It has been mentioned..adding more angles may start a battle for dominace.
angels are normally considered peaceful. however, it can be a bit of hit and miss.
I have several angels and 3 breeding pairs. if a pair form up you will have some serious territory issues. pairs can form within a few short months with angels.
when they are not spawning the angels are pretty easy going axcept at feeding time..
I would keep an eye on the angels if you are placing them with gouramis..gouramis have been known to nio at the fins..but I have also seen angels nip at gouramis.
how many angels were you planning on introducing to your tank?
at 4" your angel is a med sized angel. (some shops sell them as large)
I have several males that are 6-7" including fins and they are less than 1 year old.
