I have a young BN pleco in my 10g tank. she's an industrious algae eater, and I feed her algae discs and veggies once daily. they max out at about 4-6", depending mostly on the kind you have (temminck's is most common, getting to about 5 1/2" long). their minimum tank size is 20-30g, but I have kept mine in a 10g perfectly fine, no stunting. remember, they are poop machines, and they won't always eat algae, so keep this in mind. always make sure you can see the little bristles on the nose, since I have seen unscrupulous dealers attempt to pass young common plecos off as BNs.

Female bn often have no bristles :-)
It is more important to be sure you are getting one of the smaller species as larger ones get way to big for a small tank.

they love some wood to hide in and eat and say they are nocturnal, my BN has one eye. (she came that way) and she's allways out during the day, maybe captive breed are becoming less nocturnal.
