A quick query to the wise. i have two tanks. a 29g and a 70g. the 70g is a community tank and the 29g is raising swordtail and guppy fry. i want to move the latter intot he community tank and was thinking of putting the two gold gouramis{three spot i think} and a bristlenose cat into the 29g. is the 29g too small for these three fish?

if you want the fry to become french fries go ahead. I recommend keeping the 29 g to the fry only

i meant when the fry were big enough to fend for themselves in the community tank. I dont mind the idea of live food but i went to alot of trouble to get the fry to safety for my sons to watch grow. Dont think they would like the idea. But a good lesson on life i suppose.

Dward Gourami would ROCK in the 29!

Get a breeding pair of Dwarf Blue or Reds along with the BN and you should be more than fine. could prolly add a school of neons as well for additional color.

Hope this helps!

PEACE!

Why get a breeding pair? Why is everyone so breeding happy? Unless you're a certified breeder you make no money at it. You need to beg fish shops to take the fry as donations, you have to deal with extremely aggressive gourami parents, and then decide whether you let nature take it's course and let the father eat the fry or not...

Just forget the breeding pair, and I wouldn't put two gold three spots in a 29 gallon. I think they get as big as opalines (not sure on that) but two opalines in a 29 would be too much, IMO.
Take care,
Mary.

I totally agree!!! THeres absolutely no need for everyone to try to get their fish to breed. (dont need more pergnant fish out there, for those who remember!!!) To the OP, 29 gallons is a good amount of space for a d. gourami and a bristlenose for sure. Id hesitate to say 2 gourami, as I dont know how 2 males (or 2 females for that matter) would act together, but Id imagine if you were planted enough it could work. You could add a school of dither fish too and be good.

The Dwarf Gouramis are perfect for a 29 hal. the reason I said a breeding pair is that they don't get along with Same Sex gouramis...just like male bettas...but the Male/Female Dwarf Gouramis get along great together in most cases.

Perhaps 1 Red male and 1 Blue Female...

Yeah, but what about the possibility of fry, as mduros and I were saying? Theres just no need, as I dont think Dunlace2 particularly wants fry and as gouramis, like bettas, produce HUNDREDS at a time.
