in your tank do you like to put lots of plants and driftwood and ornaments so your fish can hide or do you like to keep your tank open with only like 2 plants so the fish can swim around the place

ME I LIKE TO PUT LOTS OF PLANTS,ORNAMENTS,Rocks and driftwood

it makes sense. You can have like plants that are very short, or very thin so the fish can swim right by them

i think every newbie goes through the phase of putting giant castles or sunken battleships in their tank. but in the end hopefully you will realize the holy grail for freshwater is an all natural looking planted tank. No artificial decor

As to the type of planted tank, it really depends on the setup. Some like a super pumped up full tank with layers of plants on top of each other. Other prefer the tranquil look of a simple clean carpet. See below for the difference betwee the 2. Personally if i get to do it over again i will go with the 2) because it is a LOT less mainteince( no need to trim/plant etc every week).

the tanks are created by amano takashi from ada. The carpet is definitly not java moss, probably dwarf hairgrass mixed with hc or glosso.

Anyway checkout adgshop.com for the supplies used. Be warned they are not cheap:)

Christmas moss (Amano moss) also looks good.

I'd recommend java moss for a beginner. I wasn't saying that's what was in the picture.

Also, Plant Geek is an AWESOME aquatic plant site. You can sort the plant types by light requirement, difficulty, etc.
