I had a 96 watt. 6700k lamp shatter above my 125 gal tank, I am doing a 100% water change, i have no fish in it as yet (my cycle just fin, fish will arrive next tues) a small amount of glass got into the tank, i cleaned it out. should i worry, i think these lights have phosphorous in them, and perhaps mercury????

thanks

here is the lamp that broke

If there were even a few little peices that feel in you should take out all the gravel and decor and make sure there are no peices still there. If there is even one tiny peice and the fish get to it, it will most likely kill them/it. Try to take it out and keep a seperate bucket to put the decor and gravel in. Take alittle out at a time inspect it and put it in the bucket. Once you have inspected and removed everything put it back into the tank. It may take awhile to do but it is better to be safe then sorry. Also I would not use the water from the tank as it may be toxic to the fish. You will most likely have at least a mini-cycle to go through.

This is how I would handle it but other may have better ideas.

I ended up pulling out the gravel on one end about 10' or so from the end of the tank. I am 99% positive that i got all the glass out and i did a 100% waterchenge. My plants are still floating i will put them back in later tonight.

sigh
