hey
It looks like I can open the floss bag and just add more carbon. Do I need to get a new floss bag or can I just dump in the new carbon?? And how often should I be adding carbon or chaning the whole thing???
Thanks everyone!

One other thing
When I need to use a new floss bag, I know I need to populate it with bacteria before throwing the old one away.
Do I just leave it floating in the tank for a week??
Yup - I am showing my 'greeness' to fish keeping!! ;)

Well you don't realy need to use carbon for a tank unless you have been using meds or trying to clear the water. Most people just simply leave the carbon and when they need some they emply out the bag and just add some new.
Also most carbon is only good for about a week or so. After, it tends to be pretty useless. And yes if the bag will open just dump out the old and put in the new.

anybody else?
When do I change the floss? Week, 2 weeks, monthly?
When do I add carbon? Every month?
Do I float the new floss or do something different with it?
Thanks
PS - I wish I wasn't moved so I would get more responses

change the floss when it falls apart. Rinse out the gunk on old filter in the water you removed from the tank during your weekly PWC. Reuse until as stated it falls apart.
carbon-if not using it to remove meds, etc, don't bother. only lasts a week or so; if left in will be an additional spot for the bio filter bugs to live.
new floss-stick it behind the old filter element for a week or so to get the bacteria started.
the new refills come with a new frame, floss and the charcoal in a mylar bag. save the bag for when you really need it
