I Have a 30 Gal. (36"x12"x17") tank that i plan on setting up... I am going to make a custom canopy to house the lighting... so far i plan to use a 2x96 watt 34" compact flourescent setup with one Dual Actinic and one Dual daylight... Would this be enough light for invertebrates, LPS specifically Candy cane coral, or soft corals. Or would i also have to add a Metal halide lamp like 70 watts...

what type of inverts?
that will be enough for jsut about all softies and LPS.
but if you are looking to keep anenomes, IMHO, youll need a 150 watt DE MH. some people have kept ones like bubble tips great under PCs, but for all those ones that get enough light under PCs, many many die from lack of light in the same conditions.

You don't NEED an anemone to host clownfish.

My Oc. clowns host my open brain coral, for example. Prior to that they hosted a powerhead.

In any event, oc. clowns may not host a BTA since that is not the particular species of anemone that oc. clowns host in the wild.

u never know what a clown will host in. it depends if ur clowns were wild caught or captive bred. most captive bred clowns will never host in an anemone or anything because they dont know what it is. but like crown said, clownfish will host in just about anything if they want.

all clownfish will hsot SOMETHING, it jsut wont necessarily host an anenome. in my reef now i have a BTA, as well with about 20 other hostable things. my clowns started hosting my macro, then as it grew out they moved to my open brain, then to my anthillia, then when that died from a sudden temp spike, they moved to a flowerpot layed for them to lay eggs on. but they have NEVER shown any interest in my BTA nor my 18 headed frogspawn. oh well
