When I just used the Python No Spill 'n' Fill to refill my tank, somehow I managed to make all these tiny little bubbles everywhere. It was to the point where one of my otos was even coated in teeny bubbles! I don't know what I did, but I'm worried that I may have forced too much gas into my aquarium. Should I be worried about cavitation in my fishies? Did I give them the bends?

Granted, it was only for about 2 minutes and everything (filtration, etc.) is back to normal now. Does anyone have any experience with cavitation in fishes? Was that enough to do them harm?

Again, I don't know what I did but I'm going to try to avoid all those tiny bubbles from now on...

thosse bubbles are due to the release of pressure between your water pipes and your tank. it's nothing to worry about and will due no harm. a great many hobbyists have those bubbles this time of year.

Nod to what liv2padl said.

To add: before you fill the tank, try putting the toe part of a nylon stocking (pantyhose) around the end of the nozzle and fasten it with an elastic or two. It will help diffuse the water and gas off a lot of the bubbles.

oh, phew, that makes me feel a lot better. Thanks so much for the quick responses!

Roan, I will try the pantyhose thing. It seems like I need to get some stockings for a variety of aquarium uses (cover filter intakes, etc.) but don't have any because I hate the way they look on me, ugh. It's funny that I'll be buying pantyhose just for my fish :D

Thanks again!

Even a sponge like used on filter intake tubes will help.

I don't wear them either so I get the pantyhose from my neighbor ;) She gives me all her ones that get runs. Reuse, recycle! :D

ooh, that's a great idea! I have plenty of female neighbors that I could ask... "Excuse me, do you have any old pantyhose with runs? It's for my fish..."
