I have a 55 gallon cichlid aquarium. My fiance bought me the expensive florite gravel for plants when I first set this aquarium up. I have two anubias in my aquarium now, just b/c they got too huge for my 5.5. Anywho I have regular lights and a canister filter. My tank is so blah and I would like to do something to it. I have two other planted tanks now, that I really don't have time to maintain. I am planning a wedding so that may be one reason why I don't have time. I'm afraid to make this aquarium planted, b/c I'm not sure if I can be dedicated to taking care of it. On the other hand I feel bad that my fiance bought this gravel for me and I'm not using it. I would like plants they look great. I'm low on money at the moment too, so I would have to puchase all the necessities one at a time. Any thoughts?

In the meantime...how can I spruce up my aquarium cheaply? The gravel is red with black specs, I have a large treasure vase, a driftwood looking piece, two not so good looking anubias, a palm tree, clay pot, fake stump and some rocks. And of course lots of fish.

Best advice I can give, considering all that's going on, is to just wait until after the wedding etc., when you have the time to develop the plantings. That fluorite isn't going anywhere. . . . ;)

Since its a cichlid tank you could just have some nice rockwork in there. Some Cichlids like to nip, tear, and uproot plants anyway. There are certain plants I think that they dont nip at cause they taste bad or something. I dont have experience with flourite since Im not to serious about plants, but can you use it in your other tanks that are planted? But if its too blah I would just add some rocks and driftwood.
