I was given two Dwarf Puffers today as a gift. I do not know very much about them yet and would appreciate any info on them before I place them in their tank. They will be goin into a 33 Gallon that is at 7.0ph and around 25C with ammonia at 0. They are still floating in their bag adjusting to temperature. Anyone got any usefull info on them or funny stories?? Oh they are just under 1/4 inch in size very "cute" looking too. :)

I only have cared for Blue Acaras and I'd like to treat these cute little puffers just right! :)

Substrate is sand and it is slightly planted with plastic plants and clay pots, I'm hoping to get into live plants next month when I settle into my new apartment.

Thanks for your time.

As juveniles, mine ate only live foods--live brine, live blood worms, and snails. Keeping them well fed is hard--I fed mine small amounts 2-3 times a day for a few weeks, then moved to twice daily, then into the 'norm'--every other day with prepared foods (frozen community formula, frozen blood worms, frozen brine, in a tank with lots of snails). They should always look fat, no shrunken tummies.

Males will fight is a female is present. Boys are a bit bigger, with more yellow on their tummies. They like plants, and may nip other fish--depends on the puffer. Mine are in my planted 40 with enons, blue tetras, rainbows, kuhli's, ect. They harrassed the heck out of my gouramies (4 of them--much bigger) until I moved the gouramies out. I never saw damage, but they chased the gouramies around a lot. I wouldn't mix them with anything long finned--bettas, angels or guppies would quickly have shredded fins.
