hey there

Maybe it is because he is new by I feel like I have 2 seperate fish tanks, my guppies on 1 side and the Gourami (dwarf) on the other.

I feel like the guppies are near the top, Gourami is kind of all over on the 1/2 tank he is on, then I was going to get cories which will be on the bottom.

Should I think about not getting pandas if I want the fish to swim around the middle.

Am I making sense?

Thanks!

This is normal for most fish. They are new to the tank and are getting used to it and each other. They will learn to coexist and swim throughout the tank as they become used to each other. Panda Cories are know as bottom dwellers but once you get some you will learn that this most of the time is not the case. They tend to have there own ways and will swim anywhere they want in a tank.

I have 2 Dwarfs and when I first got them they stayed in one small area of the tank. As they have gotten used to it they have come out more and more. Now they swim all over the tank but still have there little area they call theres. Just give them all some time to get used to all the changes.

Needeles gives wise advise. I think that once your fish are more comfortable (more time, or cleaner water if there's a problem) they will be happy to swim all over the tanks.

But for balance, I personally like to maintain a few top swimmers, some middle swimmers, and bottom feeders. These are based on their body types and swimming and feeding styles, etc. That's really for more advanced aquarists, though, because you may not know what fishes are exactly what kind. After you get more experience and if you have room in your tanks, you might want to consider this route. Of course, feel free to ask us for any suggestions! :)

For now, though, your priority should be to make sure the current fish you have are happy and content. Plus, with 10 gals you don't have much leeway to add more fish.

Like Plah said it's good to use the whole tank. So it's good to have bottom middle and top dwellers. Since the gouramis new it will take some time before he swims all over the tank.
