Well to make everything short I had problems with nitrites the other day i did a couple wc and everything was pefect, but then today i was thinking about testing everything. So i tested my ph first and saw that it was 6.0!!! But the color was lighter than the card!!! Can anyone tell me a trick to raise it to a safe range???? I'm going to make another water change but first test that water!!!!

how long has the tank been set up? what is the pH of your tap water?

my tank has been set up for almost two months... it is cycled. I think the problem was i was changing the fish water with distilled water which has a very low ph.... I'm now changing with 3/4 tap and 1/4 distilled... my taps ph is 7.8 so it evens out

Ya you want to watch that when you mix distilled or RO water. Putting to much in can have a huge effect on the tank water. The best way to do it is to start small and work up until you get the results you are loking for. It usally is not a good idea to only use DI/RO water in a tank. I would suggest raising the pH level slowly though as the fish are most likely already stressed from the huge pH change.

Keep in mind that other levels in your tank also changed. I would check to see how hard/soft your water is also now.

Using all the DI water, you haved help eliminate any buffering capability. Get some hardness test kits and check your tank and tap. Do small, repetitive water changes to bring your tank back up to the parameters of your tap water. Do not try to use chemicals and bring it up sharply! WHat size tank and what kind of fish?

whats wrong with 7.8?

Nothing...his post staes his tank is at 6.0. He is trying to solve why the drop from the tap.

My reason for using distilled water because when i first got my tank the water was outragously hard(cant remember how high but it was scary) So i wanted my fish to be more comfortable in softer water so i started doing wc with distilled water. My mistake was that i got so addicted to using it, I never thought to use some tap water. But that has changed. I hope that anwsers your question :joke:

Have a great day :cool2:
