So, anyone know of any sort of aquarium safe varnish or sealant that might stop tannins leaching from my bogwood?

Heres the deal, Ive tried everything to stop the tannins leaching from my bogwood. I soaked every piece for weeks, poured gallons of boiling water over them (too large to put in a pot) and Ive used activated carbon in filter but its a lost cause.

I spent hours and a lot of money picking out perfect pieces for my tank, so Im going to have a last ditch attempt before buying properly treated stuff, which I should have done in the first place.

any ideas!?
thanks
Mark

Thats what Im thinking. I'll have a think, probably end up buying treated wood in a few weeks time. Then I'll leave the stuff Ive got out the back to soak for a year, can always use it again later.

I have purchased now about 6 pieces of malaysian driftwood (atleast thats what I think it is - the dark brown kind). I have soaked them all for a few days, changing the water regularly in the soaking process, and it still slightly tints the aquarium water afterward, but at the very worst maybe 1 month.

Yeah, you can always use it later if you decide to get some different stuff for now.

Yeah, the pieces Ive got have been in for about 6 months and arent showing any signs of calming down. If I want clear water I need to do a 50% change every week. Which isnt a big problem, just wish I could have nice clear water all the time.
