Hi there,
just found this forum... looks like a good one to learn from.
I just got myself a 60 gal. aquarium and now that it has had a maturing cycle I want to get some danios to start out with. I know that they should be kept in schools of at least 6 or so but my question is.... If i was to get say 4 pearl danios and 4 zebra danios would that be basically the same as having a school of eight or would they sort stick to their own kind and swim in 2 groups of 4?
Probably fairly common knowledge for most but im brand new to the hobby. Any help would be appreciated.

Depending on what else you have in there or plan on getting, you have plenty of room for 6 of each.

Could you explain "maturing cycle"?

Oh sorry, probably improper wording... I just mean I left it for about a weak to dissolve chlorine or whatever and then checked ph levels and all that... just did what i read in a book.

Even better would be to read the Cycling article this site has. I believe you can link to it through my signature on the bottom of this post.

While cycling give a good read to all of this forums stickys, which I think you can get to through my link also lol.

You and your fish will be much healthier and happier.

Willie....some articles on here that you will find links for or no longer available. However, doing a search with the words will lead you to discussion threads where the topic is being talked about. The link I gave you is good, even if on another site. If you have any questions, post them here and you will receive help.

Basically the info you got on letting it age for a week, is not all there is to it. Yes the chlorine can gas off, but many water supplies are treated with chloramine, which will not go away unless you add a conditioner.

The cycling process, fishy or fishless, establishes the correct bacteria that will, on a continuous basis, turn the ammonia from your fish wastes and uneaten food into nitrites. More bacteria will turn the nitrites into nitrates.

Ammonia and Nitrites are very harmful to your fish and can cause stress, permanent damage, illness and death. The nitrates are removed by doing regular water changes.

Give the article a couple of reads, write down your questions and post here. Hope this helps.

make sure its zebra danios you buy... The giant danios get big and are really agresive
