Hmmm, kinda looks like a dojo....Well, the striping is nice. The red-tailed zebra loaches have a more forked tail. From your pic, the tail looks rounded.....With the striping, I don't think it's a dojo. Maybe Aborichthys sp.....is there a darker cresent on the end of the tail?

Sometimes they color up after they get used to their surroundings or some fish color up better when they have some companions of their own species. I checked out the red tailed zebra loach and I can't tell if it's the same or not. Weird looking little guy. The face is a similar shape to a dojo loach, but I believe they are more elongated and are more spotted than striped.

they look like spiny loaches. they are CW loaches from europe that grow to around 4-5". feed them like normal loaches and consider getting a chiller, since they like their water in the 60s.

do you have the water heated? if they are spiny loaches like I suspect, the water is most likely too hot for them. turn off the heater.

Ummmm....don't you think you should find out what else is in the tank before you suggest she turn off the heater?

Ummmm....don't you think you should find out what else is in the tank before you suggest she turn off the heater?DOH! that's right.... sorry.... so, what else do you have in there? i'd be best to move them to a separate CW tank of about 30-40Gs.

If they are like dojo loaches, they may prefer colder temps but can live nicely in warmer temps. Their lifespan may be shortened by it, but probably not by much.

i'd still say you should give them a CW tank to themselves.

Perhaps this is the loach. I believe it may be an ornate tiger sand loach.

Certainly a Schistura sp., possibly an immature S. mahanerti, as they have been common in the trade the past two years.

There are lots of different types of sand loaches. I would bet its one of them. As far as the cool water loaches like dojo's, I have had a few dojos for a few years now at ~77-78 and they seem fine.

I couldnt tell you. Never had one of those kind. There coloration can be effected by just about anything. Do some searching and find thier ideal conditions (temp, ph, etc, etc.) and try to make sure your tank is setup as close as possible. Depending on thier characterisitcs (which I have not looked into for this particular species) they may need hiding spaces or dimmer light for example to stay happy. Unless anyone else here has a more specific answer then you'll just have to do some research.
