I have a 10g with 3 male guppies that have been in there for 8 weeks, the 1 powder blue Gourami has been in 1 week. I see the Gourami making lunges at the guppies - this morning 3 times right after feeding.

Will he feel even more cramped if I had panda cories??

OK make that 4 times this morning - yikes I am going to have a heart attack!

Gouramis are well know to be nippers. Powders are also know to be one of the more aggressive types. They can grow up to 4" in size and tend to want a good amount of space to themselves. They should not mess with cories that much but the guppies will most likely end up having some problems. Your best bet would be to try and take back the Powder Blue or you may end up with some hurt guppies. For a tank that size a Dwarf Gourami would do better.

A powder blue gourami is a colour variant of the drawf gourami. Your thinking of the three spot/blue/gold gourami, wich actually grows to 6 inches BTW.

Yup - it is a dwarf and his color is blue. He should be no more than 2".

in terms of aggressiveness I actually thought the dwarfs were NOT that aggressive ... I asked questions and I did research and it looked like dwarf and guppies could live happy together.

My Dwarfs get very playful with each other after feeding and if I change it up and give them bloodworms or peas watch out. They totally ignore the Neons. The Dwarfs eat like pigs!Twice a day for about 60 seconds they eat approx 5-10 medium to large flakes each.

Have you got plants or rocks in there?Even tho he is single a nice big rock in a corner may make him happy and give a clear territory he can call his own.Out of my five the Powder Blue is the smallest at around 2 inches and also the most mellow.

Lunging is probably just being bossy.Until you see damage to the Gupps tails i don`t think you have anythinhg to worry about. As far as night time goes when the lights go out the Dwarfs seem to stop dead in their tracks and go to sleep.

I am sorry I had the Plain Blue Gourami on my mind above. Yes the Dwarfs are much calmer but can be alittl aggressive if there is more then one male and not enough space. Again sorry for posting the wrong info above.

Good, I was hoping this was/is the case! No nipping (or missing parts) just fast lunging that scares the heck out of me and probably the guppies too!!
