I have a 7G Mini Bow that I plan to plant it. It currently houses a red crowntail betta.
I have some ideas. Like placing 2 pit bull plecos in there with a couple of ottos. Or the betta, 4-5 pygmy corys, and a couple of ottos. Anyone have some ideas?
The betta is staying . . .

i would suggest either going with the corys OR ottos, not both. Its only 7 gallon, not a ton of room, and these fish are both schoolers so you will need at least 3 of em :D Good luck.

i'd say you could do the betta with 3-4 otos OR 3-4 cories, or one pitbull pleco, though i'm not positive that's even big enough for one pitbull pleco..

Thanks for your replies. I wish more people would give me advice. I see people post totally inane things, and they get like 4 pages of advice. Are you guys black balling me?

Hello, no black balling you here. It is just alot of people don't mess with the smaller tanks. They are alot harder to take care of and there really isn't alot you can do with smaller tanks.
I would not add the otto's as they are pretty picky and easy to kill off. The water needs to stay very stable for them and a 7g is hard to do that with. The pleco will simply not be happy. There would not be enough space for him to move around in. The cories can also be kind of picky.
If you want to keep the Betta I myself would add a couple Cherry Barbs and say a Dwarf Gourami. This will keep some color to the tank and all these fish are pretty hardy fish once the tank is setup and cycled. You will want to add some fake plants to the tank and a couple small hiding spots too.

Thanks for the reply!
Real quick, aren't cherry barbs a bit nippy? Also, I thought Gouramies and Bettas were incompatible due to their closeness in species.

please dont get cherry barbs!they are fin nippers, they tore my betta up within an hour(i took them out right away)and in not sure about the gourami.i would get some ghost shrimp,or if he likes the ghosties then you could get some cherry shrimp,or a different kind of shrimp.also i dont know if youve heard about them but there is a thing called dwarf livebearer, the males are about 1/4 inch, they are very hard to find,i found some on a fish website of some kind.my betta is in a five gallon with 5 ghost shrimp and a baby dalmation molly(i plan on giveing him a bigger home when he grows up).hope this helped :p:

Yes Cherry Barbs can be nippy but usally only when they are in a group. If you were to get a male/female pair with the Betta I would not see a problem. I have 4 Cherry Barbs and they do not nip at other fish. They do chase the female barbs but this is about all that I have seen.
Dwarf Gouramis are usally also pretty good when by themselves. As long as they have some space of there own they tend to be fine. The reason I suggested the Dwarf was it is a smaller type and they tend to be one of the less aggressive Gourami.
A couple of african dwarf frogs and some shrimp ?

Thanks everybody! Does anyone have the 7g? I'm wondering if the fluorescent light is adequate in it, or do I need to get another one?

Flourescent light should be fine it gives off more light than incandesent bulbs and doesn't give off as much heat (which is a must here in sunny Florida).
