Hi there

I have kept fish for some time now

I mainly kept and bread cichlids but now I have had a change of direction and want a community type tank.

I have several clown loaches (of good size up to 6 inches) , A large Pleco (about 7 inches) Three Pictus cats ( Up to 6 inches) One talking catfish (5 inches) & One zebra danio (the last of the cichlids food which survived the hunt)

My question is...

I have just got two columbian sharks (about 2 inches long).

Now I have found that they need brackish water to survive.

Would salt in the water harm the rest of the fish in my tank??

(zebra is not a concern as it can be moved to another tank)

the other fish are freshwater fish, i think transforming it into a brackish environment would not be a good thing. how big is the tank? those sharks will need a pretty good size tank if you want to keep them.

The problem is that as the 'sharks' grow, they will need more than just a little salt added to the tank (adult Arius are found in fully marine water), and your other fish are not going to tolerate anything more than a very little salt.
