Newbie question regarding setup

Hello all,

I would like to know if I can use a fluval 404 as a main pump to setp my tank with a sump and refugium. can it be used for intake and output pump? I would install the plumbing and connect the fluval to the pvc as the pump that runs everything.
Has anyone done this before?
 
it could be done however i would suggest you do not have any filter media in the fluval at all. it will only be a place for nitrates to build up.
