No, I'm not kidding. My evil iguana sometimes sits on top of the ten gallon when she isnt in one of her basking spots. She then looks up through the other aquarium glass at my Oscar, and he stares down at her. I just went upstairs and found that she had pooped into the 10 gallon tank, which has been cycling for about a week with used water from my other tank/filter and daphnia.
Should I start the tank over? It wasn't a very 'large' poop, if any of you are familiar with iguana poop.. lol. There are no fish in the tank atm, just some 'betta bulbs' used gravel in a stocking (going to be putting sand in there when I can get it) and a penguin bio wheel 100.
She usually poops in a certain spot.. I think she's angry with me :(

Personally? I would start over. There are just too many things that could be lurking in the iguana poop that would be toxic to fishies and you wouldnt know until you put them in.

how long was the poop floating around in there?

You know... my friend has an iguana and I've had it poop all over my couch and my pants. It's freakin' disgusting. That lizard isn't allowed at my house no more. :mad2:

While I think iguana poop is as nasty as anything, I highly doubt it would be dangerous. although considering you just started cycling your tank it may not be a bad idea to start over again just to be safe...

to be honest, I doubt it would matter either way. Once your tank has cycled for a month or more, it probably wouldn't matter.

First a guy pissin' in his tank, now a lizard poopin' in one...

Things that come up on this board....

I saw that post about the guy pissing in his tank....l oh my god

LOL i love this site.

If its any consolation, there is a lot of ammonia in Iggie poop!

I caught her right after the act, she jumped when I came in the door and ran for her cage. She hissed at me so I don't think she's very apologetic :P

I got the clumps out. As for the rest, I'm gonna just leave it. I go into the hospital for surgery this Friday and I won't be home for 4-5 days.. I'll test the water when I get home and the drugs wear off :D

bleh, surgery. hope everything goes smoothly!

i would start over as well, but i don't know what iguana poop looks like, sounds like it breaks apart in water if you couldn't get them all. then again thats just me, im a bit specific when it comes to these things.

I don't know if reptile and bird poop does contain ammonia. I remember learning that they produce wastes that are mostly not water solublem, as an adaptation to conserve moisture. I think it's mostly uric acid or something.

Reptileguy or Toirtis could answer this one :)
