For all of you who wonder just how big a giant gouramii really gets. These ones are on display at the bronx zoo in NYC. Im not sure what the schooling fish in the second pic are I think they might have been some type of gouramii or carp? I took these pics last spring thought I would share. Also the last one is a full size tin foil barb.

Hehe...reminds me of when I was a kid just getting into the hobby...there was a LFS called Seven Seas Tropicial fish...they had a tank in the doorway with a big, 2 foot long Osphronemus....the tank was way too small for this lunker, but he was healthy and was there forever.....He was the store mascot and he fascinated me....and he hooked me into the hobby when I was 7....ok, now I gotta find about a 300 gallon tank or so.....

yeah a lfs nere me has one same size or bit bigger. 18 years Old or at least thats how long they have had him, he eats bananas.

They get very big....29" has been recorded....I have personally seen several that topped 24".

They are awesome fish. If i had a 300+ gallon aquarium i might consider getting one
