When I bought my fish tank, it came with a filter and this long thin tube (1/4" diameter) and something on one end. There were no instructions for what this tube was for and I was baffled - it did not fit onto the filter pump outlet and seemed like it wasn't meant to be in the pack!
But it just occured to me, is it to do the water changes?!!
Can anyone throw some light on it?
I will try to get a picture of it and upload it later.
Maybe its a tube for an undergravel filter.

Does it look like this: http://images.google.ca/images?q=gravel+siphon&hl=en&btnG=Search+Images ? IF so, than yes, it is suposed to be used to do water changes and to siphon off all the fish waste and uneaten food.

Did your tank come with an air pump? And what did the thing on the end of it look like? Was it a blue 'rock'? I'm thinking its the tubing for your air pump.

It's not like those pics except for the tube looks the same..
there is no syringe-type mechanism attached to the tube, just a small object(no bigger than 1.3cm square) that has a piece that rotates to adjust the size of the hole that is cut into it... crap description I know... will have to get a piccie...

I know powwerheads come with tubes to allow air to mix with the powerhead pump.
