Taking my Pleco back today and getting something else. Been looking for forever with no solid choice yet. I would like a large, colorful cichlid. All I've came up with is a Severum, or a Blur Acara. I'm taking any and all sugggestions at this point.

Or should I scrap that idea and replace him with a Pictus?

Looking at the stock of your tank you may want to go with either a blue acara, a severum, or even a firemouth cichlid. They could all hold their own against the other fish. I like firemouths and acaras myself, but I'm sure that other people have their own preferences.

Out of curiosity, why are you returing your pleco?

A sevrum would make a nice peacefull addition to the tank. You could also get a couple smaller cichlids like salvini's or some convicts. There are some very colorfull smaller cichlids out there like apisto's (cockatoo) and German blue rams but I dont think they would do so well with the chocolate cichlid. Another nice choice might be the Nicuraguan Cichlid.

A really colorful severum would add a lot to the tank. Only problem with that is that you have big round silver dollars and would be adding a big round severum. Without the SDs, I think the sev would be a great choice. I think I'd stay away from the salvini since they are ambushers (hide out a lot and are very predatory), but Nics would certainly work ok. Maybe a gt?

I ended up getting a Green Terror. Yeah I know, highly aggressive. But I got him very small. 1 1/2 inches. So he is going to be the smallest in the tank for now. Hopefully if he grows up with them he will lose some aggression. If he gets to wild I'll have to trade him in. Nothing like a little expirment!

They aren't all super aggressive, and starting off smaller is likely to help. I gave in awhile back and got one also; I'm hoping he and the ebjd get along ok when they get bigger. The fact that the tank is run by my large, calm severum is what I'm counting on to keep the others in line.

Well he isn't eating too well. He attacks everything I put in the tank and then spits it out. I've tried pellets, beefheart and flakes. All spit out. Any suggestions?

Just give him some time. He's been fed something else at the lfs and needs to adapt to the new environment and new food. He'll eat when he gets hungry enough.
