Boy have I been there! It takes me having to do about a thirty percent water change on my forty gallon about every two days or so to keep from getting that horrible "cottony" algae back! I can't tell you how many plants I've ditched before realizing that you actually need to have patience once the stuff accumulates. I use water straight from my kitchen faucet and believe that's my main problem. I'm also clueless when it comes to fertilizing...every time I fertilize I seem to get a bit of hair algae on the tops of my crypts that tower over in the tank.

I do about a half a capful of iron, potassium and trace elements. Like I said - I have no clue when it comes to fertilizer. All I know is that the CO2 seems to help, but my crypts have holes in some of the leaves and other leaves look as though they are wearing thin. The color on my swords look nice, but they too have holes as well. I know I'm not adding too much CO2 - but my angels seem to gasp as the surface from time to time. Any suggestions?
