I have a few questions I need some answers to...

First,
I bought a long fin red minor tetra due to feeling sorry for the fellow living all by him self for quite a while in petsmart. Well I can't find any more anywhere locally! I'm still looking though. I am just wondering how much it will effect him IF I can't find anymore and IF petsmart doesn't get any more in? I would prefer not to have to spend a load on ordering a school online, however, if I must, well, then I guess I will.

I also bought the CUTE spotted cory cat today. I haven't seen them locally either until today. He was the only one ATM. Anyways, I have a school of albino cory cats. Will he be OK just schooling with them or am I going to need to buy more spotted cories?

Last question.
I bought a black ghost knife fish for my 55G which the little fellow is 3" ATM. I have it planned to buy him a 120G in the next year, HOWEVER, I think he may have attacked and killed one of my peacock eels  Is this possible? I found the peacock eel dead with what appeared to be a possible bite or tear on his tail with quite a bit of muscle hanging out. I doubt it was a tear though as it was on both sides and skin was missing. Right now I have him in a tank by himself until I either I can rule him out as the cause of death for my beloved peacock eel or until I am able to re home him as I don't have a separate tank large enough to house the BGK until the 120G can be bought. I know I can take him back to the store and get my money back, however, I don't want to do that knowing that many of these guys end up in tiny tanks with no upgrades in their future.

for the tetra, he'll pry be fine alone, the only adverse effect might be that he will be a little more aggressive than he would if he had a school of his own, on the cory, i think he'll school with the albinos, and i don't know about the knifefish, so i don't want to throw you off by just guessing so good luck

It's very likely your BKG killed the eel. I bought one at that store several months ago; his mouth is HUGE!! Even though it looks like they suck up food---big big big. He killed a blind cave tetra that was in a temporary space with its school when the BKF was only 4"--soon after he came home (in the 55 then). Got a chunk out of it. Took rest of school out. He's been in present tank for ummm. . . . 3 months or so? 6" long, and leaves all the fish alone now--cories, tetras, def. severum, and they all appear to be very happy.

I think it's more a matter of something getting close to them as they swim about, and might be hungry--they are said to have a voracious appetite!! Especially the eel since they hang out at the bottom alot, too. I always make sure Mack gets extra food in his clear tube that the others can't get too--I've seen him chase a cory away!!! Chunky little things. So maybe just make sure yours gets enough food, more than the others--I give him thawed bloodworms twice a week using a baster to get them into his area (the tube feeds into a broken terra cotta pot--his living room!!!!) Maybe you'll be in the next time I get over there!!! And eventually he'll need the 120 to be really happy (they're so beautiful when they soar across the tank!!) but for the next year or so the 55 should be enough. They don't grow as rapidly as many other species. ~~renee

Thanks for the reply. I won't be able to keep him in the 55G with my peacock eels as I don't want to take the chance of loosing another. I was lucky (in a small way) that he only took the eel that was not yet hand tame. The other is feeding from my hand, even brushing up against my hand and is eating his red wigglers very well. The newest still hasn't settled in but I'm work on him. So as beautiful as the BGK is and as much as I would love to keep him, it isn't fair to leave him in a 20G for a year :(
I'm going to attempt to find him a home first and if that fails, I can take him back to the LFS :( I'm hoping for the best in being able to find him a home where I would know that he would have a large enough home and be taken care of but we will see.
