What kind (type and/ or brand) of heaters and filters are best for a 10 gallon tank and how much do they go for? should i get a sponge filter, wet/dry filter, internal heater, external heater, and what brands. Thanks alot. -ant
I second the AquaClear. I run them on my 65 and 20 with sponges and BioMax.
Another option might be 2 Red Sea Nanos, if your hood will allow it. Very much like the ACs, I have one on my 2.5g 'betta vase' with a trimmed down AC sponge and a bit of BioMax.
they are nice but kind of spendy. they also may limit some options if you decide you want to change anything like lighting options.
primarily if considering a planted tank. tho if you use low light plant options you may be fine.
the one for the 10 has one 18" bulb.
I would agree with a nice easy to use Aquaclear on a smaller tank. The 20 is a good choice (always over filter a bit). They have a huge media compartment which allows you to put whatever you want in it.
Obviously the pricier the heater the better they are generally. Depending on how sensitive your fish are the heaters that have precise thermostats are a good idea. I believe that many people swear by EboJager heaters.
I just bought an Aqua clear 50 for my 20gallon planted, and the clerk at the lfs told me that some people don't like it because they have to get their hands dirty to change the media. This really made me wonder about these people--how in the world can one keep fish without getting your hands dirty?! Just changing the tank water will get some fishy water on your hands!
