I have some dead "live" rock from my dad's old saltwater tank. Is it ok to use it in my cichlid tank, it's very porus and looks nice. I'm making a mock saltwater tank, got free crushed coral.

i would make sure you boil it. get of all the dead things that were on it.

you should boil rocks or driftwood before putting it in the tank. you want to make sure nothing bad is still on there.

just because it's been "dead" dosnt mean that there's no harmful things on there. Salt from the old tank and possibly detrious wich will cause harm to the FW fish. your best bet is to boil and scrub it just to be sure. you dont want to kill off a tank.
