Just wondering what would happen if I ran an undergound filter with sand. I mean I know it wouldn't do its filtering job but would its still run.. would it bubble still or would like sand come up and out were the bubbles do ? would the carbon party still work? just curious thats all. I mean My tank as a normal filter and all so I was just wondering.

there are folks using sand filters. the water pours over the sand and collects after it passes thru the sand and is then recycled to the tank.

there are bio filters in place in some where the attempt is to try and recreate the anaerobic part of the nitrogen cycle..the results are still being collected. I beleive the filter also is pretty big and for many of us not practical.

UGF and sand make a bad mix. The sand would end up getting pulled up through the plates then the tubes. The would then clog the carbon trays up pretty bad. If you had Powerheads on the tubes this would end up wrecking the powerheads. You also would then have a good amount of sand floating around the tank. There are ways to use a UGF with sand but do take alot of work.

not what I ment. I just was wondering if i put and undergravel filter under the sand in my tank what will happen. I guess I will try and see in one of my empty tens so no fish are hurt.
