View Full Version : clown loaches?
Hey guys,
saw some clown loaches in my LFS and read stuffs about them on the net, they are very interesting fish to have but I have read that they grow preety big, the thing is I only have a 29G tank and I can't have a fish that can grow as big as 6" - 8" and specially loaches loves to have a lot of friends. Now, is there any other type of loaches that acts the same as the clowns and does not grow big?
thx

Actually clowns can get to 11", but it takes a long time. And they really do best in schools, preferably 3+. Nothing is really as unique as the clown loach, but a larger school of cories (5+) can be pretty interesting and actvice. If you can locate some lochata botias they're pretty interesting and stay smaller, around 4". Most other botias can get testy at times so be careful with what you buy.

yes the yo-yo's are actually my second choice to clowns, just not sure if there is any other type that is closer to clowns behavior...

Zebra loach is neat as are the yo yo's. IME, clown loaches grow so slowly that you could have 3 (small ones) in your tank for at least 2 years. Larger loaches fetch a higher price so your lfs may be willing to trade you 3 big ones for 3 smaller ones when they outgrow your tank. If you're a person that gets attached to your fish, you may not want to do this.
