Hello there! I am new to this forum and currently just got back into puffer keeping after many years away:) I had 4 puffers for 9 years before a power short blew the heater and sadly killed all my puffers:(

I will admit that I was in college and did not do a lot of research on them, however they lived happily and without sickness for 9 years in Aquarium Salt (I know...I'm on Instant Ocean now!) and a diet of shrimp pellets daily and snails a few days per week. I want to give my new crew the best possible diet and would like more specific information as to how often, what you rotate, etc. etc.

I plan on feeding snails, frozen shrimp, frozen brine shrimp and....???

They are about 2" long each and I have had them for a day. They are happy and healthy so far and have dined happily on a few snails already. What is a good feeding program to ensure they get everything they need? Please, if possible, be specific as to exactly what you'd recommend. I have done all the reading I can find, but it doesn't tell me how often I should rotate foods or which should be the staple, how often they can have snails etc, etc. Just want to make sure they stay happy and healthy for a long time! Thanks again! :)

Hello,

Sorry to hear about your previous experiance, hope the fresh challenge all works out well.

I feed mine mainly frozen bloodworm and muscle as there staple diet but also use all sorts like shrimp, shelled crayfish, garden worms, left over fish/meat, crab, daphnia and whiteworm.
I aim to feed my small gsp daily making sure there belly's dont get too big and if so i skip a day feeding ( feeding less is better than overfeeding )
As with snails, i only put a few in a month, i try my best to feed them with shelled food but as you are aware they are so small that feeding shelled food can be tricky or hard to obtain but never had problems with there teeth overgrowing,

Hope i cover most of your questions, sorry its a bit rushed.
