I am going to be moving and the house that I am moving into has a wood burning fireplace in the living room. About the only place to put my 55 gallon is going to be about 10' from the opening of the fire place. Is this going to be to close to it, and mess with the heat of the tank?

Well I suppose that depends. How often will the fire be lit? What kind of fireplace? (some project heat into the room very well--like a pot bellied stove) What is in between the tank and the fireplace?--ten feet with a of stuff in between might not allow as much heat to get to the tank. If the house doesn't depend on the fireplace for heat you might just test lighting it once and see if it impacts the temp on the tank, and then not light more fires if it does, or adjust the heating to compensate before lighting the fire. I don't have experience with this, but those are some thoughts for what they are worth.

It is not a stove, it is just a fireplace where most of the heat will be project out the front. I am guessing if I put a piece of wood furniture inbetween the fireplace and the tank it should be fine. Just seeing if anyone had had this problem before. Thanks

i have and use my fireplace in the winter .. not for heat but rather for the ambience, since it has been shown the most fireplaces actually remove heat from a house rather than adding it. that said, there is considerable 'heat' directly in front of the fireplace which extends outward perhaps 3 feet. there is no heat to the side whatsoever.
