I'm probably getting a 5 gallon for my birthday. I'm not sure what I want in it yet. These are the 3 I'm thinking of.

1. 1 male betta or 2 female bettas
2. Brackish tank. 2 bumblebee gobies
3 Another brackish. 2 fiddler crabs

I know fiddler crabs are hard to keep but I would try.
Any other suggestions welcome.

My vote is with the male betta--I love them! Aside from that, you should know that female bettas can sometimes get very aggressive with each other, and many people suggest buying 3 of them to spread out the aggression. However, your 5g is too small for 3, so 1 male OR 1 female is what I'd suggest. He or she would thank you for all the room :)

I have fiddler crabs in my brackish tank, they're fun to watch. I've heard that keeping small brackish/sw tanks is difficult because a small amount of evaporation can throw the salinity off quite a bit, due to the small volume of water. I have a 5gal hex that I'm thinking about stocking, I was also looking at some of the smaller killiefish as options.

one male or female betta and some ghost shrimp, thats my 5 gal setup ;) or just cherry shrimp, they are really cool.
