hi, i have a penguin 100 and the bio wheel has stoped spinning, i have figured out that the fins are filling up with water as it spins and then becomes to heavy and in turn stops spinning. when i take it off and empty it immediatly starts to spin, but it only lasts about 20-30 seconds.

i let it dry over night, and i put it in this morning, bgut to no avail it still stoped. has anyone else had this happen? should i contact marineland? any ideas would be appretiated.

Clean the little nubs and the holders that the bio-wheels rtotate in; might be gunked up and impeding the flow.

BTB, letting the wheels dry out just killed off all the bacteria on the wheels-main reason for having them! :thud:

lol i actually cleaned them last night and it didn't help.

yeah, thats what i figured. i was thinking that if it ends up that i have to get a new bio wheel it would be the same anyway.

The old wheels should still be good, the "critters" will regrow on them.

How gunked up are the filter pads? If the water flow through them isn't enough it'll slow down the wheels. Also, have you cleaned out the impeller/housing? It may also be gunked up causing the filter not to pump enough water.

I run Penquin 350's on my 29's and a 200 on my 20; they get taken down every month and cleaned out. Water always flows better!
 
Also check/clean the intake tube and strainer.
 
Is there algae under the wheel? Remove the wheel and clean the filterbox thoroughly, especially the spillway. If all else fails, email Marineland. They sent me a new Bio Wheel 150 because my 125 didn't pump too well even after a thorough cleaning.
