OK - the tank is cycled, the 5 year old is primed, and we're just about ready to add our fish. Thanks to all who took the time to answer my previous post! I've done some research and want to start with real easy beginner fish that would be fun for a 5 year old to watch. It's a 10 gal tank (aww, wish I'd known to get a bigger one).

Here are the fish I'm initially interested in:
- zebra danio
- cherry barb
- harlequin rasbora
- white cloud minnow
- peppered cory cat

So...I don't want to overstock and I know these are schooling fish...any suggestions on numbers and combinations?

Also would a shrimp or snail count in the stocking equation?

Thanks for your ideas!

I like the Harliquin Rasboras--but it is personal preferance. I would go with a school of the smaller fish--cherry barbs or Harliquin Rasboras and then maybe 4-5 small corys. It would make a very active tank! I don't think a shrimp or a snail would overfill the tank.

Ya man hands down if it is for ur kid get cory cats! I have 3 in my tank but u should really get 4-5 but do not make the same mistake i did GIVE THEM ROOM yes they like rocks and plants but give them a large part of the tank to swim around they will bee wayyyyyyy more happy!

And also make sure that u get them a sinking wafer and give them one everyother day to make sure that they get all the food they need!
